Hard Hat: The Rebellion

What do you get when an insignificant henchman of an evil doctor rebels against his former owner?  In the case of Hard Hat: The Rebellion, you get an impressive parody of the classic Megaman series, a chuckle-worthy background story, and a devilishly cute piece of headgear as a main character.  Although not a "funny" game per se, it included notable humorous portions.  (In what other game would a robotic hard hat refuse to bring his master a beverage in favor of pursuing his ultimate goal, to "kill things and break stuff"?  That's gotta be worth something.)  While some judges were critical that almost all the graphics and sound were borrowed from Megamen II through V, the effort and dedication that went into this game definitely made it worthy of a position among the top three.  Tough, well-designed levels, multiple weapons, and Game Pad support were just a few of the expert touches that could make Hard Hat a Game Maker classic.  Hard Hat: The Rebellion got a total of 530 points, earning Michael Greenough 3rd place in the GML Design Contest 2003.
