When someone left the room at the judges' LAN party because they were "freaked out" by the sounds of Jetz Rampage 2, we had to consider it for the multimedia award. Complete with explosions, billboards, MP3 soundracks and a plethora of hapless bystanders, JR2 is the recipient of the Best Sound & Graphics Award. Shawn will receive a copy of 3D GameStudio and a BYOND Gift Pack. The Best Ghetto Game Award went to the best submission that zipped to less than 700 KB. Given that every Game Maker executable includes 1 MB of background code (unzipped), creating such a tiny game is quite a task, and only a few Game Maker developers were up to the challenge. However, Adam Carr's Head2Head, a spinoff of his more complete Puffindairy Fighters, proved both cute and addictive enough to win. Adam will receive what software donations remain after the second- and third- prizewinners have taken first dibs, as well as a BYOND Gift Pack. Hard Hat, an exceedingly minor Megaman character, turns away from a life of evil and servitude after Dr. Wiley delegates him to menial tasks such as fetching his beverages. It may not be the beginnings of the great American novel, but the premise of "Hard Hat: The Rebellion" was just funny enough and original enough to win the Least Likely to Win the IGDA Excellence in Writing Award Award, slated to go to the game with the goofiest or most original storyline. Mike will receive a copy of Stagecast Creator, Evaluation Version and a BYOND Gift Pack. Not only has Urisoft created the first isometric shooter in history about a mutant carrot created by Sadam Hussein after the Gulf War, he submitted his entry within fifteen days after the contest's disclosure! As the top entry out of those submitted before July 31st, Urisoft wins the Lightning Award and will receive a copy of Stagecast Creator, Evaluation Version and a BYOND Gift Pack. |

The Special Awards Winners are, well, special. They're not exactly "Honorable Mentions"; rather, they're given to the games that best fit specific, unusual criteriae. After we totalled up the scores on the rubrics, the judges and I realized that two of our Special Award winners were also Grand Award winners. This bothered the judges a little bit, but after considering the amazing effort that went into these two games (and the original contest rules), they decided that their original rulings should stand.
