About the Judging Process

Although all contestants clearly put a great deal of work into their creations, only a limited number could be selected as the winners.  Therefore, our process merits a brief explanation.  Although traditional measures of excellence were definitely considered, the most heavily weighted category was humor and originality.  We wanted this contest to be more about ideas and creativity than sprites and levels, although games that performed exceptionally well on the latter got a big boost!  All judges spent quality time one-on-one with each game, exploring all controls, options, and as many levels as was necessary to in order to make an informed judgment in each category.  The process was extremely competitive, with many discrepancies among the judges' scores due to the subjective nature of the rubric.

All in all, we had a lot of fun exploring with everyone's work, and we're confident that we attracted & selected some worthy entrants.  We'd like to personally thank everyone who entered, and especially our generous sponsors, who donated a total of over one thousand dollars in software and prizes.  Visit their sites on the main page, or write them an e-mail 'thank you' if you feel so inclined; without their help, this event would never have become possible.
